Indiana employers have a new payroll reporting requirement coming in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) is introducing Enhanced Wage Reporting, which will require employers to provide additional employee information as part of their quarterly unemployment wage reports.
Here’s a quick look at what’s changing.
What Is Indiana Enhanced Wage Reporting?
Enhanced Wage Reporting is an update to Indiana’s existing unemployment wage reporting requirements.
The goal is to give the state a better understanding of Indiana’s workforce, including the types of jobs employees perform and the hours they work.
What’s Changing for Indiana Employers?
Beginning with the fourth quarter of 2026, employers will need to report additional employee information, including:
- Job Title: The employee’s position within the company.
- Hours Paid: The number of hours for which an employee was paid.
- Reporting Unit Number (RUN): An additional reporting identifier.
- Apprenticeship or Internship Status: Whether an employee is participating in an apprenticeship or internship.
Indiana will also require employers to use valid 2018 Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) codes when reporting employee occupations.
When Does Enhanced Wage Reporting Begin?
The new requirements begin with the fourth quarter of 2026, covering October 1 through December 31.
The first enhanced wage report is due January 31, 2027.
What Should Employers Do?
Indiana DWD is continuing to provide information about the new reporting requirements.
Employers should review the available guidance and stay in contact with their payroll provider regarding any changes that may affect their reporting process.
You can find additional information on the Indiana DWD Enhanced Wage Records website.
